The Forum 2001 Foundation was called to life by Fons Elders at the Fall of the Berlin Wall (1989), when new possibilities opened up for Europe. One way to reach the Foundation's goals is the building of a Conference Centre on Sardinia. The building project -the philosophy of which seamlessly matches that of the Foundation- is called D2M.
Europe chose in 1990 for the open society. The next decades in the 21st century will be decisive for the course of Europe and her position among the five continents. The aims of Forum 2001 relate to three areas:
- Europe’s cultural and political unification amidst a global economy;
- the exceptional cultural significance of the Mediterranean space;
- understanding and insight into the value systems that operate world-wide.
The Conference Resort Sala-una is a Centre with an architecture that is adapted to the new necessities of the 21st century, by stimulating dialogue, open mindedness, and occasional encounters with other visitors. The resort derives its inspiration from a rich natural and cultural environment.
